Martial Arts Classes In Bloomington

Hi, we are Corey and Elisha Coffrin and we are the owners of Coffrin's ATA Martial Arts. When we began our martial arts journey, the positive impact it had on our lives was remarkable. It was always our dream to someday own our own school. When we opened our first location in Effingham, Illinois in 1999 and later relocated to Bloomington in 2008, we made a commitment to our community in Bloomington to create an enjoyable environment for students to improve their fitness, while building confidence they can carry into their everyday lives. Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive, age-specific martial arts training programs available on the market today. We are committed to establishing measurable results physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. We are also dedicated to providing every student with the most positive training atmosphere possible.

MARTIAL ARTS IS NOT JUST KICKS AND PUNCHES!

We teach all of our members to focus on and be present in the moment. In this age of distractions and sensory overload, this is a skill which returns immediate results in all aspects of one's life. Here are some interesting facts about Coffrin's ATA Martial Arts:

  • Our members are from all walks of life - we have students, attorneys, doctors, engineers, military and law enforcement all training in a fun, team-oriented family environment.

  • We have kids that have been training for years that leave to top colleges and universities in the country, thanks in part to the discipline and focus on hard work they learned through martial arts. This is something we take a great amount of pride in.

  • There are always new generations of individuals and families coming in to pursue the ongoing legacy. It is a tradition in martial arts to pass down the knowledge one receives in their training and many students become instructors, often ending up owning their own schools.

It is our goal to inspire strength, discipline, confidence and focus in our students, to help them discover their inner leader. We believe every child has the potential to be a leader, they just need someone to believe in them. I understand the challenges of raising a confident and focused child in an age where there are more distractions than ever.

And while the kids have their fun, our adult program is second to none. From traditional martial arts to more modern self-defense styles, there is something for everyone at Coffrin's ATA Martial Arts. If you are looking to burn major calories, learn self-defense moves and get in the best shape of your life, you must come and check out our adult program.

Imagine yourself as a stronger, more confident individual in the best shape of your life. We want to personally invite you to take advantage of our introductory trial offer, and turn that vision into a reality.

It would be a privilege to meet you and your child to have them step into the wonderful world of martial arts.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

In many martial arts styles, the assumption traditionally has been that once students earn their black belts they are ready to teach other students. But the ATA does not believe that simply being able to do something well qualifies a person to teach it. During the last 45 years, the ATA has developed an intensive instructor training program to insure that all ATA instructors are skilled and professional teachers.

Before becoming certified, ATA black belts spend 2-3 years as instructor trainees, during which time they are required to teach at least 300 hours under the supervision of a senior instructor. They are required to earn certification in CPR and Youth Protection, to write a research paper on a specialized aspect of martial arts training, and to attend instruction seminars.

Finally, they must pass several written and practical tests and submit to ATA headquarters a video of themselves teaching Taekwondo, for Grand Master Lee's instruction staff to evaluate. Instructors must repeat these requirements every three years in order to retain their certification.
